ORGANISER

the Association of Friends of Freediving (O.F.E.K.) in Limassol, which was established 1996 and presently has 50 members.

TIME

In January 2003 the club organised the 1st Pan Cypriot Apnea Championship. The reason for this competition was to establish other Apnea disciplines in Cyprus, to form a national team, to select the best Nationals, all in order to represent Cyprus in the international freediving scene.

RULES, SAFETY

The event was held under strict AIDA rules. This included two AIDA judges, two dive medics, a standby ambulance, ready medical kit and oxygen, topside and underwater video coverage and continuous attendance of a safety diver for each competitor at all phases from warm up to actual competition. Throughout the competition no emergencies arose and the whole operation run smoothly due to a well organised championship.

STATIC APNEA COMPETITION

Beginning competition was the static category.

Winner in this class was Savvas Savva from Limassol holding his breath for 5 minutes 24 seconds 09 hundreds receiving 104.3 points.

DYNAMIC APNEA COMPETITION

Second competition part was held in Dynamic Apnea.

winner Savvas Savva with a distance under water on one breath for 88 meters collecting another 44 points.

RESULT

The 1st official Cyprus title overall went to the outstanding winner Savvas Savva who reached 148.3 points and who became the top champion in the 1st Pan Cypriot Apnea Championship.
