The world's leading expert in the geological structure of the eastern Mediterranean seafloor, Dr. John K. Hall ("Geological Structure of the Northeastern Mediterranean," 1994), has confirmed that the rectangular, table-top mountain pointed to as the Acropolis Hill "cannot be a volcano," rejecting claims recently made by German geophysicist Christian Huebscher. |

ATLANTIS EXPEDITION UNCOVERS STARTLING NEW EVIDENCE Cyprus team claims man-made structures located 1 mile below sea level. A triumphant Robert SARMAST, American author and expedition co-ordinator of the first Cyprus Atlantis Expedition, is today celebrating at his base in Limassol, Cyprus, following the completion of the first expedition to prove that Plato’s lost city of Atlantis lies 1.5km down on the sea bed 80km off the S.E. coast of Cyprus. ‘We cannot yet provide tangible proof in the form of bricks and mortar, as the artefacts are still buried under several metres of sediment, but the circumstantial and other evidence is now irrefutable – and we hope that future expeditions will be able to uncover the sediment and bring back physical proof’ said Robert, whose book, ‘The Discovery of Atlantis – the startling case for the island of Cyprus’ (Origin Press 2003) has become something of a best-seller in Cyprus – where the tourist industry will certainly be set to gain from this latest discovery. Mr. SARMAST and his team will present their new evidence at a press conference on Sunday 14th Nov. at 12 noon on board the EDT expedition vessel ‘The Flying Enterprise’ in the new port of Limassol, Cyprus, where there will be photo and interview opportunities. In association with Phoenix International, the expedition team boasts members who were involved with the Titanic discovery team, some of whom will be involved with the final image data processing in the UK later this week. Within the next 2 weeks the images will be posted on the expedition website (www.discoveryofatlantis.com) and will also be circulated to world experts in the field of Geophysics – some of whom have already been baffled by previous initial scans of the formations from this particular underwater location. ‘It’s been a long, hard road to get to this point, but today it is all worth it’ said Robert SARMAST, who has spent 9 months, 7 months longer than expected, based in Cyprus, 8,000 miles away from his home-town of L.A., working on raising the money and assembling the team and film crew for this, the final phase of his 12 year task to convince the world that what remains of Cyprus today is just the mountain tops of the old Atlantis peninsula, Atlantis City having being submerged by a great flood thousands of years ago. The expedition footage, given the positive result, now looks certain to become the subject of a major international TV documentary in the very near future. For interviews with Robert SARMAST call +357 99 15 91 16 or email: press@discoveryofatlantis.com For any other information please call Angela Henderson, press liaison: +357 99 97 44 84. or email angela55@cytanet.com.cy |

30.04.2004 START AT OFFSHORE location |
was at midnight the 30.04.2004 when Cyprus joined the European union with the symbolic deployment of the capsule FROM EDT'S VESSEL "CREON". the several long hour journey took the team, TV media and vessel crew to the Atlantis site. sea conditions were rough with strong winds and high swells. but every bodies spirit was held up with a delicious dinner sponsored and catered by the famous Lebanese freeway inn restaurant from Limassol. at exactly 0000hrs the capsule was guided by diver axel from aquatec - innerspace operations ltd. to -50 meters and then FREED to the abyss. with 2 meter high waves, a flying sea currant of 3 kn and the closest land being below at -1600 meters it was a demanding operation. the eerie midnight underwater scenery was a pitch black water body only with some glittering plankton and one harmless little shark visiting the diver at depth. the mission took all night till early morning hours and was not without signs of exhaustion. |

27.04.2004 PRESS RELEASE #1 |
Foreign & Science News. Embargo Friday 30th April 00.01 am. Press Conference in Cyprus Thurs 29th 11am. CYPRUS JOINS THE EU - but is ATLANTIS joined to Cyprus? 'EU enlargement' takes on a new dimension as exploration programme is launched this week. Cypriots prepare for Saturday's May 1st Accession celebrations and with it they have nothing but enthusiasm for the possibility that Plato’s lost land of Atlantis may be joining the EU with them. Aware of the massive potential benefit to tourism, the governmental Cyprus Tourist Organisation (CTO) has already committed some funding to the international Cyprus Atlantis Expedition 2004 which is co-ordinated by American Robert SARMAST, researcher and author of the new book: ‘The Discovery of Atlantis: The Startling Case for the Island of Cyprus’. The expedition programme will be officially launched just after midnight on Friday with the symbolic sending to the sea floor of a capsule containing the Cyprus, EU and specially created ‘Atlantis’ flags at the area which maps have pin-pointed as a possible site for Atlantis City, 80 miles off-shore Cyprus and one mile deep. As with other Atlantis explorations, considerable global media interest has already developed and at least one major TV documentary looks likely. However, with over $500,000 already invested into the unique underwater maps that underpin this search, scientists are increasingly taking seriously Sarmast’s claim that he will succeed where others have failed – and persuade the sea bed to yield up the Holy Grail of Archaeology. ‘Ancient historians believed, and I will prove, that Atlantis was a real place and not a myth’, SARMAST explains. ‘With modern technology, we can now ‘see’ the geography of the sea floor in a way that has not previously been possible. Our new maps clearly show a sunken landmass – a rectangular plain just as Plato described - joining the S. Coast of Cyprus to Syria. No other Atlantis expedition has had the benefit of such maps nor has ever claimed to have found a site which matches, as ours does, up to 50 features of the descriptions in Plato’s writings’. (For maps see www.discoveryofatlantis.com). SARMAST believes that Gibraltar was joined to Africa far more recently than most scientists currently acknowledge and that the breaking of the Gibraltar Dam around 11,000 years ago caused the flooding of the Mediterranean, the submergence of half of Cyprus/Atlantis and as a result the ancient flood myths of all Middle Eastern cultures. Sceptics may be impressed by the fact that several accomplished international salvage experts and deep-sea explorers have been willing to stake their reputations on becoming involved with the Expedition Team. Providing the ship for the launch event is Darios Melas, a Cypriot whose company EDT was involved with filming the Titanic wreck and Axel Schoeller from Aquatec-Innerspace Operations ltd. The launch/publicity team is international - with members from Austria, US, UK and Cyprus. With partial funding now secure, the team anticipate that the Expedition proper – which will involve using deep sea ROV, multi-beam and side-scan technology to map the sea bed in detail – will take place within the next 2-3 months once a major corporate sponsor has been secured to provide the remainder of the funds. If the greatest archaeological find in history is made, SARMAST believes it will have earth-shattering effects on the fields of history, science, religion and many others. But more locally, success could also bring about a new twist to the perennial ‘Cyprus Question’. The Cypriots may yet discover that in ancient times their island of Atlantis was neither an island, nor part of Europe, but actually joined to Syria.
